Discovery K'gari Adventures · Rainbow Beach
Discovery K'gari crosses from Inskip Point on the short barge and spends the day in a 20-seat 4WD truck, with lunch by Lake McKenzie. Pick it for the smaller group and the longest lake stop of any day tour here.

Rainbow Beach is the closest town to K'gari's southern tip, and that matters for a day trip. The barge from Inskip Point to Hook Point takes about 10 minutes, and you're driving up 75 Mile Beach within the hour. Discovery K'gari meets at the Shell service station on Rainbow Beach Road at 7:30 am and gets you back between about 3 and 4:30 pm.
The listing spends 45 minutes driving the beach, then stops at Eli Creek (30 minutes) and the Maheno (15), before 90 minutes at Lake McKenzie including lunch, and 30 minutes at Central Station. Morning tea, lunch, drinks and an afternoon snack are included, along with the barge and park fees. The truck seats 20 and the guide talks the whole way; recent reviews name Paul, Jess and Jeff again and again.
The downsides are the usual ones for a day tour, plus a few. It's a bouncy ride. Some guests wanted more time at the lake. A handful of reviews mention late starts or vehicle trouble. Direct, Discovery lists it from AUD 279 for adults, AUD 249 for children (5 to 17) and seniors, and AUD 895 for a family of four, with AUD 299 in high season from 19 September 2026 to 31 March 2027.

★★★★★You get to see all the main hotspots of K'Gari in one jam packed day and it's absolutely amazing to experience its full beauty. Jeff our tour guide could not be faulted. His knowledge and pace meant we had plenty of time at stops [...] Highly recommend this small group tour.
★★★★★Our guide, Dan F, was fantastic, very knowledgeable and down to earth. Ferry over, 4WD ride to our stop and had swam in Lake McKenzie, had a beautiful, guided walk through a small piece of rainforest, spotted 3 dingos and had a brilliant day.
★★★★★Paul was a great guide for our day on Fraser Island! The tour was comprehensive with history of the island and seeing the iconic sights. We were even able to see some whales in the distance!
★★★★★Lake Mackenzie was amazing. The water was pristine. Bring crocs or suitable footwear as the sand gets hot. Lots of sunscreen and a hat, best of all cover up. You need short shorts to cross Eli Creek.
