Discovery K'gari collects you from your Noosa hotel before dawn, drives up to Rainbow Beach and runs its small-group island program before bringing you home in the evening. It's the only way to see K'gari from Noosa without a car, and you should go in knowing it's a 13-hour day.
This is the same small-group tour as the Rainbow Beach departure, with a long drive bolted on each end. Pickup in Noosa is between 5:20 and 5:45 am; the group joins the Rainbow Beach guests around 7:30, crosses on the Inskip barge and spends the day on the island. You're back at your accommodation between about 5:30 and 7 pm.
On K'gari you drive 75 Mile Beach for 45 minutes, stop at Eli Creek (30 minutes) and the Maheno (15), then get 90 minutes at Lake McKenzie with lunch and 20 minutes at Central Station. Morning tea, lunch, drinks and park fees are included. Reviewers love the guides and the lake. Several also warn about travel sickness and the bumpy inland tracks.
Our honest take: if you have a car, drive to Rainbow Beach the night before and take the shorter tour. You'll be fresher and it costs less. If you don't, this beats any "day trip from Brisbane". Discovery's own price from Noosa is AUD 299 for adults and AUD 269 for children and seniors.
