K'gari Explorer Tours · Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach
The same 4WD coaches as the day tour, stretched over two days with a night at K'gari Beach Resort on 75 Mile Beach. It is the trip we'd pick for most first-timers: double the lake time, Lake Wabby and Champagne Pools, without camping or driving yourself.

The 2-day tour fixes the main complaint about the day trip, which is time. Day one gives 2 hours at Lake Wabby, reached on foot across the Hammerstone Sandblow, 40 minutes at Central Station and 2 hours at Lake McKenzie. You sleep at K'gari Beach Resort at Eurong, in a standard hotel room (single, twin, double or triple).
Day two runs up 75 Mile Beach to Eli Creek, the Maheno and the coloured sands of the Pinnacles, where the guide tells the Butchulla story of how they got their colours. Then comes an hour at Champagne Pools, the rock pools north of Indian Head that are the only safe way to get into sea water on the island. The listing now says the coach "cruises past" Indian Head: the headland walking track is closed until 18 November 2026.
Breakfast and two lunches are included, dinner isn't, and the resort is the only place to eat at night. Budget for that. The resort also takes a credit-card pre-authorisation of AUD 100 a day plus a AUD 200 bond. Some older reviews mention rooms without air-conditioning; recent ones are mostly happy. Direct from the operator it starts at AUD 645 twin share; on Viator it is from $390 per person for the cheapest room type.
Hotel pickup, then the ferry from River Heads or the Inskip barge from Rainbow Beach.
Walk over the Hammerstone Sandblow to the green barrage lake. Wear shoes: the sand burns on hot days.
Rainforest along Wanggoolba Creek, then a long afternoon at the lake.
Check in at Eurong. Dinner is at your own cost at the resort.
Up the beach with stops of 20 to 30 minutes each. The scenic flight is an optional extra.
Swim in the rock pools, then back down the beach to the ferry.

★★★★★I had absolutely lovely time on this two-day-trip. There was a lot of time in each stop. You could just relax and enjoy the beautiful nature.
★★★★★The itinerary was very well thought out. Our guide David was informative, a lot of fun and one helluva driver! We had a nice clean room and enjoyed the food.
★★★★★Lake McKenzie and Eli Creek were a big highlight for us. We chose to do the 15 min flight from the beach which was seriously amazing, definitely glad we took that opportunity!
